Biography:

I was born and raised in London, England, but for as long as I can remember I have sought out the wilder corners of this majestic ball of beauty we call home. Over twenty-five years ago I transplanted myself to Vancouver on the west coast of Canada to complete a PhD, having already fallen in love with the beauty of this corner of the world on a bicycle tour in 1992. Since then I have wandered through the timeless mists of old-growth rainforests, across glaciers and wind-battered sub-arctic tundra, and gazed out from thin-aired mountain summits of the Rockies, the Alps and the Andes. I have striven to capture the beauty of the natural world, and have sought also to live by this creed: leave only footprints, take only memories — and photographs.

On Art:

I think my approach to photographic art starts from a different perspective from that of many others. Many seem to think that the point of art is to be “original”, whatever that means. I don’t. I think the point of art is simply to be authentic - to speak one's truth as beautifully as one can. Art is self-expression. In my case, the primary mode through which I try to speak my truth is through photography. I never waste my time worrying about whether my art is "original". I worry about whether I have expressed who I am, and what I want — nay, need — to say, as beautifully and authentically as I can. The last thing I would ever want to do is to fail to express something beautiful and profound that means a lot to me just because someone, somewhere, has expressed something similar before.

I hope that through my images you might find some of that sacred connection to this world that continues to inspire me.
